This terrible feeling

Journal Entry: Thu May 17, 2007, 9:35 AM
  • Mood: Grouchy

:iconzemotion:+:iconnoah-kh:

of feeling that my works are crap.

I hate entries like this, I hate reading such ones and if you hate too you don't have to.

Of course everyone has a different set of aesthetics and opinions.

I'd been feeling like shit about my past few shoots. Why are my stuffs boring? Why is it not striking enough? Why i can't see my shot and feel the quality is like "this is not shot by a local photographer, it must be a top fashion photog". What sets the difference?

My works are not good enough.

I want to do fashion, it's what I'm doing. But every time someone says 'this looks like a painting' my heart skips a beat. I want my works to be different.

Just what is it?

I feel like I have no sense of style, no ability, no creativity.

Did I improve? Did I impair? Can I continue?

I feel so anxious, restless. I want to cry.

Where was I again?

do you feel you are lacking the knowledge of what is attractive to the less artistically-experienced audience?

like, do you feel that your work is not being appreicated by people who didnt study photography? like, you know, commoners, per say. people who dont know the way of color, composition, etc etc.

surely there is a big difference between a masterpiece in your heart and a masterpiece in sales.

your own favorite piece might be one that no one ever wants to buy. =P

:petting: Your works have such originality that most fashion photographers can't attain to! You should be proud of your works! If they were mine, I would be showing it off to everyone (well, ok, I wouldn't, I'm not that conceited, but I would still be proud of them nevertheless)!

Girl, your work is stunning. Stop moaning and instilling self doubt, you are right up there, top of the tops.

In moments like these, you need to take a rest and refresh your mind.

Look around you and find your inspiration, as you discover yourself and your own world. You just need to be true to yourself.

Hope you feel better soon~

let me first say your photography is absolutely beautiful in every aspect; composition, lighting, subject matter, etc etc.

that being said, maybe you just need to break out of this little funk you're in by taking pictures of something you normally don't. I can see your photography is dominantly of women. Try taking pictures of men? Or animals? Or buildings? Plants, cars, clouds, anything really. Something like that might just be the thing you need to get you motivated again. It could cultivate your mind and stimulate some new fresh ideas.

just a thought. in any case, your work has thousands of admirers. keep it up!

personally, i think your work is amazing. it has inspired and influenced many, and i wish to get to that level of photography someday. each piece has its own soul, and none are boring, so get positive again! :)

Don't worry, my dear. We all go through phases like that where we don't feel as if our art is good. We are our own worst critics.

I usually try to read up on art and try new techniques and improve... and usually, we go back at some point to what we did before that was so good and cool, but with a few more tricks under our sleeves ;)

However much we say that it's nice and awesome, and wonderful, if YOU don't like it, then there's something wrong. Sometimes, taking a few steps back before going forward helps.
Take a look at the big picture before going back at it.

Well it’s like this… we are our own worst critics. It’s our drive for perfection that sets us apart from the rest. By our own standards we will never be good enough any mater how hard we try. With that in mind one must have the self realization that we are always willing to be the student. Always accepting we can learn more and one could never know enough. You know in your heart that your work floats on the top of artistic culture. Our eyes can deceive us of what beauty our art contains. It becomes very hard to take an objective look at your work from the out side when you stuck living inside. I know this isn’t the best idea financially but, take a break. Step away from your wok for a while. Inspire your self with some other work that pushes to be better. Look to your teachers and master that you respect as artist and play with there minds a bit. Just don’t give up and please stop with the pity party you know, and I know you’re better than that.
